- Angelo ΓÇ£Hank" Luisetti
- popularized the one-
- handed push shot, using
- one hand at the side of
- the ball, to guide it, and
- the other hand behind the ball to shoot it --
- the way players shoot today. Until the mid-
- 1930ΓÇÖs, there had been only one accepted
- way to shoot a basketball, and that was the
- two-handed push shot.
-
- As a child, Hank needed to wear leg braces.
- He couldnΓÇÖt squat to take a ΓÇ£proper" shot, so
- he started pushing the ball toward the
- basket. He played with bigger kids, so he
- had to move to the outside to get his shot off.
- Because he needed to build up momen-
- tum to get the ball to the basket, he
- added running to the one-hander.
